Fiddleleaf Fig
Fiddleleaf Fig
This painting of a Fiddle Leaf Fig is part of my Painting a Day for Pandemic project. Every day through the end of the April I'm going to paint & sell an original watercolor for $50 & at the end of the month, donate half the proceeds to a person or organization in particular need due to the current economic situation.
‘Fiddleleaf Fig’ | “But Laurillard preached a ‘religion of beauty’ in which God was nature, nature was beauty, art was worship, and artists were preachers”. . .
Don’t look at me, I didn’t write it;) That’s a quote from a fascinating biography of Van Gogh by Naifeh & Smith. At this point in the book, Van Gogh doesn’t consider himself an artist & is not pursuing a career as such. But he loves art & obsesses over it (as he did most things) & he loves this new perspective on God, nature & the elevated calling of artists from the preacher Laurillard. Doctrinally comprehensive? No. Beautiful & truthful in ways? Yes, I believe so.
