Hollyhock Leaves

Hollyhock Leaves

$50.00

This painting of Hollyhock leaves is part of my Painting a Day for Pandemic project. Every day through the end of the April I'm going to paint & sell an original watercolor for $50 & at the end of the month, donate half the proceeds to a person or organization in particular need due to the current economic situation.

‘Hollyhock Leaves’ : An unintended consequence of this project is that you’re learning about all of my horticultural failures:) I planted Hollyhocks last year by our fence, thinking how lovely the tall stalks of blooms would be against the natural wood. Plus, you always see pictures of Hollyhocks in rows along fences so it seemed like the thing to do. A neighbor gave us some Dahlia bulbs so I planted those next to the Hollyhocks; we were going to have a beautiful stand of mixed blooms against the fence. . .but my plans were foiled. That area doesn’t get morning light & apparently that’s a must because I didn’t get a single flower from either- not one! So last week I transplanted the Hollyhocks to a pot at the back of the house where they will be baked in sun alllll day long. I can’t remember what color the flowers are supposed to be so if I do get blooms this year, it will be a fun surprise. I’ll keep you posted!
