We traveled to St. Kitts, British West Indies this summer and discovered a ruggedly beautiful & largely secluded island. The terrain changes drastically as you drive north to south– like, desert-to-rain-forest-drastic. What drew us there was a little open-air cottage on the very south tip of the island with its own secluded beach & view of sister island Nevis from every window. It was pure magic.

One day we were looking for a specific beach that was known for great snorkeling & since we didn’t have GPS access we were at the mercy of old fashion directions. We got lost (probably distracted by all the monkeys running along the side of the road!) & ended up in a beautiful development of some sort. We came across a lovely building that appeared to be clubhouse so we went in to ask for directions. What a pleasant detour! This was both the property management office & a restaurant with one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen in my life. They were very kind, despite our flip-flops, & not only directed us to our intended destination but also arranged for us to have dinner on the best night of the week: live steel drum music night!  We returned to this view a couple days later & enjoyed a magical evening complete with sunset over the water, steel drums, a dancing waitress & hug from the bartender when we left. Serendipitous, indeed!
