'Liming' Limited Edition Print
‘Liming’ | In my mind, lemons are Mediterranean & limes are Caribbean. My mom grew up in St. Lucia where my grandparents were missionaries. But the first time she went back as an adult with my dad they ordered iced tea at a restaurant & it baffled the staff. They clearly didn’t have any ready to go but instead of saying “no”, they brewed fresh tea for them and brought it out with trays of ice, fresh limes & simple syrup. When Joel & I got married there many years later we used the Caribbean slang term “liming” as inspiration for our invitations-- which were as informal as the meaning of that word. The Urban Dictionary defines it this way: “the concept of liming encompasses any leisure activity entailing the sharing of food and drink, the exchange of tall stories, jokes and anecdotes etc., provided the activity has no explicit purpose beyond itself.” Well, we did have the explicit purpose of marriage in mind, but “liming” perfectly encapsulated the vibe we wanted for the whole affair.
‘Liming’ is part of my Painting a Day for Pandemic collection. For 20 days in April I painted & sold an original watercolor for $50 (a fraction of my regular price). At the end of the month I donated 50% of the proceeds to CWS to help with the housing needs of refugees in our community. It was a tremendously joyful & creativite time, despite the uncertainty of the circumstances— all thanks to my collectors & fans who offered their generous support & feedback. Thank you!
