'Fiddleleaf Fig' Limited Edition Print
‘Fiddleleaf Fig’ | “But Laurillard preached a ‘religion of beauty’ in which God was nature, nature was beauty, art was worship, and artists were preachers”. . .
Don’t look at me, I didn’t write it;) That’s a quote from a fascinating biography of Van Gogh by Naifeh & Smith. At this point in the book, Van Gogh doesn’t consider himself an artist & is not pursuing a career as such. But he loves art & obsesses over it (as he did most things) & he loves this new perspective on God, nature & the elevated calling of artists from the preacher Laurillard. Doctrinally comprehensive? No. Beautiful & truthful in ways? Yes, I believe so.
‘Fiddleleaf Fig’ is part of my Painting a Day for Pandemic collection. For 20 days in April I painted & sold an original watercolor for $50 (a fraction of my regular price). At the end of the month I donated 50% of the proceeds to CWS to help with the housing needs of refugees in our community. It was a tremendously joyful & creativite time, despite the uncertainty of the circumstances— all thanks to my collectors & fans who offered their generous support & feedback. Thank you!
