'Hollyhock Leaves' Limited Edition Print
‘Hollyhock Leaves’ : An unintended consequence of this project is that you’re learning of all my horticultural failures:) I planted Hollyhocks last year by our fence, thinking how lovely the tall stalks of blooms would be against the natural wood. Plus, you always see pictures of Hollyhocks in rows along fences so it seemed like the thing to do. A neighbor gave us some Dahlia bulbs so I planted those next to the Hollyhocks; we were going to have a beautiful stand of mixed blooms against the fence. . .but my plans were foiled. That area doesn’t get morning light & apparently that’s a must because I didn’t get a single flower from either- not one! So last week I transplanted the Hollyhocks to a pot at the back of the house where they will be baked in sun alllll day long. I can’t remember what color the flowers are supposed to be so if I do get blooms this year, it will be a fun surprise. I’ll keep you posted!
‘Hollyhock Leaves’ is part of my Painting a Day for Pandemic collection. For 20 days in April I painted & sold an original watercolor for $50 (a fraction of my regular price). At the end of the month I donated 50% of the proceeds to CWS to help with the housing needs of refugees in our community. It was a tremendously joyful & creativite time, despite the uncertainty of the circumstances— all thanks to my collectors & fans who offered their generous support & feedback. Thank you!
