We traveled to St. Kitts, British West Indies a couple summers ago and discovered a ruggedly beautiful & largely secluded island. The terrain changes drastically as you drive north to south– like, desert-to-rain-forest-drastic. What drew us there was a little open-air cottage on the very south tip of the island with its own secluded beach & view of sister island Nevis from every window. It was pure magic.

This painting is pure joy! This
is Turtle Beach & you can just barely make out the little cottage that was
our home for a week last July on the island of St. Kitts. To be honest, we
weren’t prepared for the amount of dried seaweed on the beach & had to
maneuver around it in places but I actually love the colors & patterns it
created as it dried in layers on the shore: gold to olive to sienna. Constant
breezes through the palms, the soft cooing of doves, views of distant islands
& not another soul in site; a dream I relived every moment of the painting process.
